What in-house does better
Someone in your office knows the product, the sales team and the politics. They hear about the new range before it launches and can walk to the developer’s desk. For large companies with constant releases, that closeness is worth a lot.
What outsourcing does better
SEO is several jobs: technical, content, links, analytics, local. One hire is rarely strong in all of them. An agency gives you each skill when you need it, covers holidays, and doesn’t have to be rehired when someone leaves.
Cost, roughly
An in-house specialist costs a salary plus benefits, tools, training and management time, every month whether there’s enough work or not. An outsourced team costs a monthly fee for a defined scope. Offshore teams in India cost less again, because salaries and overheads are lower, not because the work is lighter.
A comparison
| In-house | Outsourced | Hybrid | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Knowledge of the business | Deep | Built over time | Deep |
| Range of skills | One person’s | A team’s | A team’s |
| Cost | Fixed, high | By scope | Moderate |
| Speed to start | Months to hire | Weeks | Weeks |
| Risk if someone leaves | High | Low | Low |
The last row is the one people underestimate: when an in-house specialist leaves, most of what they knew leaves with them.
The hybrid
Many companies settle on this: one person inside the company owns priorities and signs off changes, and an outside team does the audits, fixes, content and reporting. It gives you control without having to hire four specialists.
